I’ve been loving Self Portrait for a while now, but I recently stumbled into Neiman Marcus event that Han Chong was hosting and lost my marbles. It was like I walked into a dream, a lace and chiffon dream.
Typically, when you see pieces that contain every girlie detail, it makes you want to throw up a little bit, but somehow Chong perfectly executes and what we’re left with is perfection. Keep reading to see a few of my favorite picks below.
Spring has most definitely sprung and I’m dreaming about breathing a bit of life into my home. I’m thinking pops of color, refreshing my pillows, and updating my art game. Lucky for me, my favorite home decor site, Lulu & Georgia, is having a major — seriously major — pop-up shop sale now through April 22. I’m talking up to 80% off the prettiest pieces you ever did see. From pastel rugs that somehow don’t feel childish, to of-the-moment furniture, and timely decor, Lulu & Georgia pretty much has everything.
As could be expected, I’ve already gone H-A-M and picked up a pink and cream chevron rug, three prints (London, NY, and Rome), and three pillows for my bedroom. I can’t wait for my goodies to arrive! Keep reading for a few of my favorite Lulu & Georgia picks plus what I’m crushing on this Spring.
You can bring color into your home in so many different ways, the key is don’t constrain yourself! It can be in the shape of a new coffee table book in an eye-catching pink, or a new record player in cherry red, or a pretty pastel rug — play around with it and have some fun!
Is it just me or has the weather all of a sudden flipped from Fall to Winter? I know what you’re going to say — you’re in San Francisco, it doesn’t even get cold there! — but guys, I’ve got California blood and I’m just not cut out for the cold. With that said, the chill-factor has me dreaming of cozy, oversized sweaters, knit dresses, and — dare I say it? — turtlenecks. They’re totally making a comeback, you guys. We all know Marilyn, we all know Jackie, but very few of us really know Katharine. As one of the most underrated females of the Twentieth Century, Katharine Hepburn managed to redefine what it meant to be a woman by making her own rules and having fun along the way.
It’s hard to imagine a time when pants and leisurewear were considered taboo; Hepburn is largely to thank for that. Her tomboy style and refusal to change who she was forced the movie and fashion industry to redefine what was considered “acceptable” for a woman. She once said, “If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun” and it seems as though she sought to live her life in that same vein. In a time when everything she stood for seemed to be unacceptable, she forged ahead and miraculously managed to change America’s conception of beauty — and create a timeless fashion trend along the way. She encouraged women to dare to be different, to question standards, and above all to always remain true to themselves.
We think nothing is more admirable than a woman who refuses to be defined and seeks to live her life with integrity and grace. That’s Katharine, and let’s face it, we might not be wearing our favorite pair of jeans if it weren’t for her! So let’s raise our glass to a woman who dared to be different and managed to make being a tomboy incredibly sexy.
