I’m always a sucker for breezy, coastal style but there’s just one problem — I’m not on the coast! I’ve always dreamed of filling my home with soothing blues and oyster whites, seagrass rugs, and hurricanes galore but the traditional coastal look just doesn’t jive with my San Francisco location. So, I’ve been dreaming of revamping my home in a more modern (yet traditional), coastal vibe. Keep reading to catch a glimpse of my inspiration.
There’s something about the calming quality of blues and creams that I’ve never been able to shake — when I walk into my home, I want to feel instantly relaxed and shades of blue do just the trick. Varying shades of blush and cream round out the blues nicely and add a little pop to keep things interesting. I’m seriously toying with the idea of painting my walls a super pale blush.
This room perfectly marries the traditional with the coastal look. You have the easy breezy vibes of the seaside while the classic silhouettes anchor everything with a touch of refinement. The slip-covered sofas keep it casual, while the accent chairs add a touch of polish — it’s the balance of the two that’s key. I actually own these leather stools from Serena & Lily and am obsessed — they just look so effortlessly cool. The only change I’d make to this room is swapping out the rug for this classic jute rug from Pottery Barn.
The Finish The Look Pieces
I find that the finishing touches really bring a room together and a hint of the unexpected can amp up that wow factor. Right now I’m crushing on Americana vibes with a touch of gingham. Whatever you’re feeling, add a few small — or large — pieces that draw back to something you love for a space that is completely your own. Take a peek at some of the ways I’d incorporate a touch of Americana into my modern coastal room.
Now you have it! A few tips on re-creating a modern-coastal look at home!
May is almost behind us and you know what that means – hello Summer! With hotter months ahead I’ve got two things on my mind – makeup refreshes and skincare prep to make sure my skin is ready for all those vacations that lay ahead! Luckily, I have a few new favorites that I’ve added into my rotation, so keep reading for my Summer essentials — everything from skin to lips to lashes!
With Winter comes dry, dull skin that needs a little extra love and I’ve been crushing on Nip + Fab’s Glycolic Fix Cleansing Pads to help my skin get back into shape. I love that this product has my two favorite miracle workers — glycolic acid, which helps to retexture and exfoliate and hyluronic acid, which helps to moisturize and refresh. I always follow up with their Dragon’s Blood Fix Serum for extra moisture. If you haven’t tried either of these products, I highly recommend testing them out.
So now that your skin is buttery soft and luminous, it’s time to focus on those lips. I’m all about bright lipstick, so soft smooth lips are essential to my Summer look. I’ve always been a fan of lip exfoliation, but the one thing that always kills me is having to use your fingers to rub the product in. I don’t know about you, but it just kind of grosses me out. That’s why I was beyond thrilled to find Rodial’s Lip Scrub which has an applicator pen for a no mess scrub sesh. Hello silky soft lips!
I’m pretty particular about my mascara — it can either make or break your total look — but when I was recently introduced to Rodial’s Glamlash Mascara Skinny I was immediately hooked. The soft bristles give your lashes a gorgeous flutter plus the the highly pigmented color means your lashes look fab all day long.
San Francisco is buzzing with excitement over the upcoming Super Bowl 50, and there’s one thing on everyone’s mind — party prep for the big game. I’m hosting a small get together with my sister, so naturally I’ve been brainstorming decor, menu, and of course drinks. The key to a killer Super Bowl bash is ensuring you have a wide selection of delicious snacks (super unhealthy is recommended) and equally as important is the beverage selection (beer is paramount of course). Continue reading for my Super Bowl party tips.
It’s no secret that if I would rather have appetizers for dinner than the dinner itself. So, it should come as no surprise that I LOVE Super Bowl Sunday (not so much for the football, but for the ridiculous snacks). Recipes for a few of my favorites and shopping picks for the tableware are below.
Now onto the fun part — libations! While Bud Light is the unofficial sponsor of Super Bowl 50, I’m planning on amping it up a bit with a selection of craft and local beers plus my favorite cocktail, Greyhounds. Drink picks and barware picks are below!
I can’t believe it’s about time to pop the bubbly and light the sparklers— 2016 here we come! I know NYE is tomorrow, but there’s still time to ensure you ring in the new year in style. From the perfect dress, to the must-have accessories, to the perfect bottle of bubbly (or themed accessories) I’ve got everything you need to make it a NYE worthy of the hype. Keep reading for my picks!
This Sunday I’m planning a little Friendsgiving + football fete with a few of my besties. I want the vibe to be low-key — football and beer status — but still upscale and festive. To pull this off I’ll be pairing classic dishes — like roasted turkey and pumpkin pie — with show stopping pieces like Scalamandre highballs and gold leaf plates. Read on for my list of must haves for Friendsgiving party prepping.
After my recent trip to Boston — and a few hours spent leaf peeping — I have Fall and all of the season’s trimmings on my mind. This time of year can be fraught with cliches — and basic b love affairs — but despite that, it’s still my favorite season. The air feels a little bit cleaner, the excitement of the holidays are upon us, and the fashion is to die for. This year I’m crushing on over-the-knee suede boots, oversized fisherman sweaters, and anything burgundy or leopard (or both!).
It’s official, I’m a grown up. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect coffee table to feature in my living room and it finally arrived this morning. You know you’re an adult when coffee tables give you a buzz. The living room definitely still needs more work, but it’s looking more refined now that I can swap my ottoman for a real life coffee table.
Next on my list is a pair of side tables. To ensure that the room doesn’t feel too lopsided, I’m looking for a chic and sophisticated pair that can handle my tank lamps (thank you mom and dad for not wanting these beauties!). Take a look at a few of the options below.
It’s no secret that most of us have a love-hate relationship with Valentine’s Day, but I’ll come right out and say it — I kind of love it. Not in the traditional sweetheart kind of way I must admit, but to me this holiday is all about celebrating those you love and that falls way out of the realm of your significant other. Now there are many different routes you can take to show them just how much you care, but to me February 14 means one thing — homemade Valentines.
This year I got a little crazy and added my signature sequins (obviously) into the mix. After all, nothing spices up construction paper like a little sparkle! So, how will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day?
One of my favorite things about home decor is its transitive nature, its fluid form. While this fluid nature allows for a constant ebb and flow of ideas and creativity, it also allows for the trends to become just a little too trendy. Well, I’m here to help you navigate through these minefields to ensure you end up with a unique and enviable home. The most important thing to keep in mind is that any trend can be tweaked to become a little less obvious, which for me is key. It’s easy to get caught up in it all, but as long as you stay grounded with classic pieces your home won’t look like your 16-year-old sister got a hold of mom’s credit card. So, keep reading for a few tips and tricks on how to ditch the kitsch.
By Luciana Print — Typography is an overly trendy right now, so opt for a phrase that’s off the beaten path. This gold foiled print from By Luciana — which I just purchased — is clean, simple, and glamorous.
Gold Bamboo Mirror — Always pair bamboo with more traditional pieces to avoid an overdose of kitsch. I’ve found that it has the ability to ground what could be an overly fancy space with a hint of whimsy.
MCM Leather Trunk — Unfortunately, Louis Vuitton trunks are a bit overdone. I’ve been a fan of MCM for years and love that they offer a fresh take on the monogrammed look.
Delft Hand-painted Pottery — Vintage ceramics are a great way to add depth and intrigue to your space. I recently visited Amsterdam and picked up a gorgeous Delft plate to display on the wall — not only is it a keepsake from my trip, but it also adds the perfect vintage touch to my room.
Whether you’re ready for it or not, Fall is just around the corner, but why dwell on the less than pleasant characteristics (like the inevitable drop in temperature and eventual return to school) when you can begin thinking about all the great things to look forward to. Yes, I’m talking about Fall florals! Take a look at this comprehensive list of your new buds and how to style them!
