Having a Moment with Self Portrait

I’ve been loving Self Portrait for a while now, but I recently stumbled into Neiman Marcus event that Han Chong was hosting and lost my marbles. It was like I walked into a dream, a lace and chiffon dream.

Self Portrait Dress

Typically, when you see pieces that contain every girlie detail, it makes you want to throw up a little bit, but somehow Chong perfectly executes and what we’re left with is perfection. Keep reading to see a few of my favorite picks below.

3-Day Weekend Style Tips

This was the first year I got MLK day off — major woos! — so my boyfriend and I decided to stay local and take day trips around the area. There are so many places to visit around San Francisco, so it was actually quite hard to narrow the list down to 3! We opted for a SF food adventure, a night out in Half Moon Bay, and a bike ride across the bridge to Sausalito. Keep reading for our weekend agenda and some of my favorite looks for each.

SF Food Adventure

Hit List: Mr. Holmes Bakehouse + Brunch at Brenda’s French Soul Food

We had our eyes set on Brenda’s for brunch on Saturday and as we went to put our name in (for the hour+ wait) I noticed a glimmering box from Mr. Holmes, so naturally we went to grab a coffee — and maybe a donut to share. This strategy is highly recommended. For our little jaunt I opted for some casual ripped denim, a chic sweater, and some casual kicks to round it out. Shop the look below:

Chic Sweater: Knitted Sweater, Comme Des Garcon // Mendocino Pullover, Cupcakes and Cashmere // Heart Sweater, Moon Collection

Distressed Denim: Distressed Ankle Leggings, AG Jeans // Distressed Skinny Jeans, BlankNYC // Destructed Skinny Jeans, Belle + Sky

Sneakers: Super Star Glitter & Suede Sneakers, Golden Goose // Classic Sneakers, Vans // Cotu Sneakers, Superga

Half Moon Bay

Hit List: Cocktails at The Ritz + Dinner at Sam’s Chowder House

It’s only about an hour outside the city, but Half Moon Bay seems like worlds away. On a nice day — or night — there’s nothing better than grabbing a cocktail at one of the seaside fire pits at The Ritz. Unfortunately, the weather was horrendous so we were stuck inside but, I must say, the stormy sea was still pretty beautiful. Post-cocktails we ventured over to Sam’s for lobster rolls. Now I’d say that’s a pretty solid night. Shop the look below:

Long Sleeved Tee: Camden Long Sleeved Tee, Rag & Bone // Slub Classic Long Sleeved Tee, T by Alexander Wang // Crochet Long Sleeved Tee, Chloe & Katie

White Jeans: Slit Cigarette Jeans, AG Jeans // Spray On Jeans, Blank Denim // Sarah Skinny Jeans, Articles of Society

Lady-like Flats: Lili Leather Ballet Flats, Isabel Marant Etoile // Ballet Flats, Anniel // Ballet Flats, Repetto

Bonus Vest: Moonlux Quilted Vest, Freecity // Ogdove Nylon Puffy Vest, Freecity // Quilted Faux Leather Vest, Michael Michael Kors

Sausalito

IMG_5539Hit List: Bike Ride Across the Golden Gate Bridge + Lunch at Fish

Tom’s a big biker and had gotten me this cute little Public Bike last year, so a bike over the bridge to Sausalito has been on our hit list for months. Today was a bit rainy, but we made the trek anyways — and I’m glad we did! We rewarded our 8 mile ride with a few cold beers, a crab sandwich, and some tasty ceviche. Shop the look below:

Chic Sweatshirt: The Varsity Sweatshirt, The Great // Kale Sweatshirt, Sub Urban Riot // Detroit Crewneck Sweatshirt, Topshop

Pink Denim: Stiletto Denim, Current/Elliott // Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans, Joe’s Jeans // Skinny Jeans, Alice + Olivia

Sneakers: Super Star Glitter & Suede Sneakers, Golden Goose // Classic Sneakers, Vans // Cotu Sneakers, Superga

Bonus Raincoat: Rain Jacket, Without Walls // Tora Hooded Rain Jacket, Tretorn // Wings Rain Jacket, Tretorn

Until Next Time.

Style Session — Chic Workwear

There’s nothing I dislike more than stuffy workwear. The matching pantsuits, the bland work heels — it makes me cringe! My theory is, just because you’re at work doesn’t mean you have to dress like you’re going to a funeral — there are plenty of options that are professional yet chic! Whether your office is ultra-formal, business casual, or anything goes I’ve got a solution for your workwear blues! Keep reading for my picks.

Ultra-Formal

Though my office isn’t big on the formal-wear, there are times (read: client meetings) when it’s more appropriate to dress up. For those occasions I opt for my favorite J.Crew skinnies and black silk Theory top (you literally can’t go wrong with Theory). Black on black is fool-proof.

Workwear

Black Silk Blouse, Stella McCartney // Black Skinny Pant, J.Crew // Camel Coat, Carven // Black Booties, Prada

Business Casual

Skip the stuffy-factor and bring more trendy elements into the mix. Again, I wouldn’t be able to survive without my J.Crew skinnies but this time I would pair it with a non-black silk blouse. I find that adding pops of different colors to an outfit tends to bring down the formal-factor.

Workwear2

White Silk Blouse, Theory  // Black Skinny Pant, J.Crew // Camel Coat, Burberry // Tan Open-Toed Booties, Loeffler Randall

Anything Goes

I’d categorize POPSUGAR’s dress code as pretty much anything goes. It’s got the Goldilocks syndrome going on where you’ll see some dressed to the 9s, some dressed by the trends, and even a few in workout clothes — I like to hover somewhere in the middle with a good pair of jeans and trendy top of some sort. I’m also loving the chunky knit sweater below — I mean September is just around the corner!

Workwear3

White Chunky Knit Sweater, Madewell // Skinny Jeans, Paige // Camel Coat, Karen Millen // Black Slip-Ons, Vince

Until next time.

Trending — Lenny Kravitz Leather

If you enjoy the modern miracle known as the internet, you’ve surly heard of Lenny Kravitz’s recent wardrobe malfunction (also known as #penisgate). In the spirit of the trend, I thought I’d put together the most crave-worthy leather around (spoiler alert some items are on sale!). Read through for my leather laundry-list.

Let’s Get To The Point

These are the staples, the leather classics that are of the moment without going too far. If studying abroad in Italy taught me anything, it’s that every girl should have a classic leather jacket — and let’s face it, leather pants, skirts, and shorts are welcome additions too!

Trending

Blush Leather Pants, Mackage // Green Midi Skirt, Tibi // Leather Jacket, Veda // Leather Shorts, Helmut Lang

Unlike Lenny, these lovable leather pieces should outlast the test of time, so throw caution to the wind and live a little.

More Trending: Leather Skirt, Acne // Black Leather Pants, True Religion // Leather Moto, TopShop // White Leather Shorts, Nasty Gal

Deep Cuts: Fringe Leather Jacket, Cusp // Metallic Pleated Skirt, Marc Jacobs // Moto Leather Pants, Balmain // Fringe Leather Skirt, Karina Grimaldi // Red Leather Pants, J Brand

Until next time.

Style Session — Fringe Benefits

I’m always looking for seasonal staples that I can take from day to night, workday to playday, family party to date night (read: I can’t justify the splurge unless it’s something I can consistently wear). Enter this Mara Hoffman fringe skirt. It’s fresh colors, funky trim, and versatility had my mind racing just thinking of all of the occasions it would be perfect for!

I like to keep my style simple and refined, focusing on one eye-catching piece versus shocking the senses with high impact pieces. Check out my styling for the 3 quintessential Summer events below:

Decor Refresh — Palm Beach Chic

Summer is in full swing and I’ve been dreaming of a little decor refresh to the tune of Palm Beach chic. There’s something about walking into a room filled with bright, bold patterns; breezy dwarfed palm trees; and crisp white accents that makes the day infinitely brighter.

This season I’ll be infusing my home with hints of kitchy-cool Palm Beach style — just enough to bring out the bright feeling without overwhelming the senses. Checkout my picks to get the look:

Say yes to anything and everything pineapple.

Palm trees are always a good idea.

When in doubt, throw a bamboo chair into this mix.

These pieces immediately transport me to the days of Slim Aarons, where nothing seemed to matter as long as the sun was shining and the martinis flowing.

Summer is winding down, Fall is quickly approaching, and it’s time to make the most of the last few carefree weeks ahead. Whether throwing the perfect backyard BBQ (stay tuned for my tips on throwing a seasonal fete) or exploring a new neighborhood, keep reading for your can’t miss list for August shopping.

Your Guide to Stagecoach Styling

My Stagecoach tickets arrived today — yahooo! — and I haven’t been able to keep my mind off of my impending trip to country music heaven since. So rather than fight it, I figured I’d roll with the punches and start planning my festival outfits! Now, there is a fine balance that needs to be maintained here — I mean I’m not trying to look like Kacey Musgraves at the Grammys (even though I kind of love her).  So with that in mind, I’m looking to balance some inherently Western pieces — hello flare denim — with some unexpected twists to keep the equilibrium. Whether you’re headed to Stagecoach or not, the Wild West is back so keep reading for a modern take on an old classic!
