Welcome to September — and the beginning of Fall for that matter. A new season means it’s a time to reinvent yourself, to try something new, and embark on new adventures. Whether that be a new job, a new city, or even a new wardrobe, it’s time to bust loose! This Fall, I’m looking to round out my closet with statement pieces that fit easily into my eclectic yet classic style — all while setting out to explore San Francisco a little more throughly. Keep reading for a sneak peek at this season’s essentials.
A Killer Pair of Boots
I am seriously head over heels for these Jeffrey Campbell Overland Boots. They redefine the classic ankle boot with an embellished heel and ultra-cool cutouts. While they may seem a little out there, I have confidence that these would pretty much work with everything. From leather leggings, to white jeans (I refuse to abide by any laws of fashion), to a simple a-line skirt. These boots are perfection.
A Simple, Yet Buzz-Worthy iPhone Cover
I’ve been rocking the same leopard iPhone cover since college and I think it may be time to upgrade. This time I’m looking for something a little less mainstream and a little more understated — hence this camo cover from C Wonder. It adds a hint of edge to your look and I’m not hating it.
Statement Earrings That Won’t Break the Bank
We all know them, we all want to be them — the girls behind the jewelry powerhouse Dannijo. Unfortunately, I’m nowhere near the stage in life where I can afford their gems so I’m left to search for an alternate. Enter BaubleBar. I’m especially loving these Floral Pulitzer Drops, which are absolutely stunning. There’s nothing like a bold pair of earrings to add a little umph to your look!
The Perfect Motto
Finally, to continue on with my motif of new season new you, I find it only natural to have catch phrase. It’s important to treat yourself to something special every once in a while — after all you deserve it! So live a little and don’t forget to enjoy yourself!
Growing up with a mother born and bred in St. Louis — the preppy capital of the Midwest — I was constantly surrounded by monogrammed, well, everything. I have to admit though, I was never really that into the whole thing (I think it might have been the purple and pink monogrammed backpack circa 1998 that put me over the edge). That is until recently; I’m hooked and lucky for me Sarah Chloe has it covered.
I love their simple approach to jewelry and while I tend err on the side of “when in doubt throw it on,” I think there is something to be said for the whole “less is more” mantra — which is good as these pieces are on the pricier side. Whether opting for a simple monogrammed signet ring (this would look to-die on a pinky) or opting for the thin bangle, these pieces are sure to elevate your ‘fit to new heights.
I recently received BaubleBar’s Double Curb Chain in my July POPSUGAR Must Have box and have to admit that I am completely obsessed. At first glance, it seems it would only be suitable for a leather-clad city girl, but a few hours — and countless outfits — later, I realized that this piece is entirely versatile. Whether you’re on the edgy side of the spectrum or a die-hard girlie girl, this piece will transition seamlessly into your wardrobe. Don’t believe me? Keep reading to see for yourself.
The 90s are back, in a big way. With the recent resurgence of iconic trends from the era like high tops (I’m still praying for LA Gear to resurface), flannel shirts, and base-ball caps it’s not shocking that there’s a “new” kid on the block — overalls. And all I have to say is, thank God they’re back!
Here I’ve compiled my three favorite ways to rock this trend below and can’t wait to nab my own pair. Whether layering an acid washed pair with a classic baseball tee and Rocco bag; or pairing a lengthier version with a charcoal beanie; or choosing to take the trend literally with sweatshirt around your waist, you’re sure to look effortlessly hip.
Just because you err on the side of simplicity doesn’t mean you that your summer uniform has to be boring! This look is all about staying true to the pieces you know and love, without letting it get stale — it’s all about the adding an unexpected twist to your everyday look. This season, I’d suggest pairing a classic grey tank and white jeans with a tasselled clutch and simple gold accessories — it’s an effortless Summer BBQ look!
While Summer style tends to be casual, that’s no reason to sacrifice your girlie side! The important thing to remember is that it’s all about balancing your look to avoid looking too done up. I’ve paired this funky cut-out crop top with a high-waisted black skirt to achieve that romantic feeling without getting too crazy. The next step is to add a pastel bag and some unexpected baubles, namely the leucite sharks tooth, to complete the look!
What better time to experiment with your style than now; after all this season is all about having fun, so your treat your look any differently? I’d suggest anchoring your look with a classic piece, like jeans shorts, and then layering on some unexpected pieces, like the dip-dyed chambray shirt and Chanel bow, for a funky-fresh look. What’s your go-to Summer style?
My mantra, the bigger the better — that’s why, when I stumbled upon this gem of a jewelry label, I immediately fell in love. Designer Loren Barham, of Loren Hope, brings new meaning to the term contemporary-prep with punchy, yet sophisticated statement pieces that can take you from a day at the beach to a night out. I like to think of the line as the Hamptons meets Dannijo (another swoon-worthy label).
Right now, I’m hard-core crushing on a few of her pieces in particular — namely the Maya Necklace, the Leda Clip-ons, the Maya Bracelet. The vibrant hues paired with the strong metal accents makes these pieces at the same time effortlessly polished and completely current.
I’ve been daydreaming of bright colors today — this should come as no surprise seeing how I am minorly obsessed with color and, maybe more importantly, have been living without power today. In the spirit of beautiful bright colors I picked this Angela Caputi bounkit necklace as my Summer inspiration for the day. It’s both bright and funky — two prerequisites for anything I buy — and gives me just the right amount of clunkiness that won’t overpower my body. Be sure to check out her entire collection here — you won’t regret it, but your wallet might.
There are always those must have pieces that you are dying to have, but just don’t know how to wear — I’m talking those sky-high red pumps, or that leopard pea coat, or perhaps that pair of sequined pants. We’ll I’m here to tell you that you needn’t fret, after all it’s all about pairing it with something simple and classic to keep your ‘fit on the tasteful side of bold.
I’ve been eyeing these Charlotte Olympia Dolly heels for a while now, but I found myself wondering if I would ever really wear them. After some careful consideration – and a lot of time on Polyvore — I have come to the conclusion that they are an absolute must. I was nervous they would look a little too, how do I put this, skanky; however I quickly realized that by pairing them with simple black skinnies, a billowing white top, and a crimson clutch they suddenly felt like the natural choice.
My rule of thumb is to choose one statement piece — whether it be a pair of outrageous heels, over-sized turquoise tear drops, or even red lipstick — and then keep the rest of the outfit simple, as if it were simply a pedestal for your show-stopper.
This Summer I’m looking to enjoy the breeziness of season and with a few simple additions to my wardrobe — and home. It’s all about choosing key pieces that allow versatility, so take a look and don’t forget to share your Summer must haves below!
